Posh: Pool Sign Our Men? No Chance!

Blackpool won't be signing Peterborough United pair George Boyd and Craig Mackail-Smith, according to Barry Fry.

United Director of Football Fry has sent out a clear message to the Seasiders that they won't be willing to pay the money necessary to secure the services of Posh's once sought-after men.

Fry said: 'I have had conversations with Blackpool chairman Karl Oysten and manager Ian Holloway. They have shown an interest in Boyd and Mackail-Smith as Holloway is an admirer of them both, but neither player will be going there as they won`t pay what we want.

'We wouldn't sell Boyd for £2 million anyway. We turned down £2.5 million last season so why would we sell him for less now?

'We don't need to sell anyone. We are trying to build a team to get promoted.'

Whether the two players are what Ian Holloway really needs is up for debate.

Boyd has been subject to interest from a whole host of clubs in the past couple of years but since a failed loan spell at Nottingham Forest last campaign, suitors have cooled.

Mackail-Smith has scored more than one-in-three for the London Road club since moving from Dagenham in 2007 but struggled to find his feet in the Championship quickly enough.

Opinion on www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk seems to suggest moving onto other targets would be advisable for Pool.

One poster said: 'Both struggle to perform at Championship level, why is a premiership team interested?. They are obviously gambling on getting a cheap deal. No chance, until they have 6 months left on their contracts.'

Another noted that: 'Take what we can for Boydy, he hasn't been at his best for a while now, although that may change with the re-arrival of DF. Keep macca though if we can. More important to finally get rid of all the dead wood in the squad, that will save a lot on wages for players who haven't even been at the club for ages.'

The final comment summed up the supporters feelings on their players, saying: 'Living in dreamland if Posh think they will get anywhere near 2.5million for Boyd now.'

To think Aston Villa offered £3.5m for Charlie Adam! Are these over-inflated prices for average players (according to Posh fans) what Ian Holloway needs to secure Premiership status?
