'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Head-To-Head: Doncaster Rovers

Blackpool travel to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday looking to once again break into the playoffs with three points at the Keepmoat stadium. But how have 'Pool faired against their opponents in the past?

Games: 36
Blackpool wins: 18
Doncaster wins: 9
Draws: 9

In no less than 16 games has one of the teams scored three goals or more. And the first meeting between the two was in 1901 with 'Pool running out 3-1 winners in the old Second Division.

Despite The Seasiders having the obvious upper hand in the history books, Donny present a tough test and since the turn of the year the games between the two have been fairly unpredictable.

Colin Hendry's first league fixture as gaffer saw his side - fielding the likes of Sasa Ilic, Rob Clare and Danny Livesey - soundly beaten 2-0 at Belle Vue.

However, in the 05/06 season a combination of Hendry and then caretaker Simon Grayson saw us rack up two league victories, notching five goals in the process.

Ironically, Hendry's last game was to be at the same venue as his first inbetween those league wins against Rovers. A 4-1 drubbing in the FA Cup was too much to take even for Karl Oyston and the former Scotland captain was given his marching orders.

Last season in the Championship neither Grayson (who took four points off Dave Penny`s team in the promotion year) nor Tony Parkes could get a victory. The away fixture saw the teams play out a 0-0 bore draw whilst at home a glaring miss from David Fox (failing to put 'Pool 2-0 up) instigated a 3-2 victory for the visitors.

Even though it's been hit-and-miss which Blackpool team will turn up against Doncaster, it's certain to be either a highly entertaining game or a bore draw. Given that both play highly attractive football, it could be a cracker.
