Pool took the lead in the game though Matthew Ogden, but by half time were 3-1 down. Pool had named an inexperienced team but manager Steve Thompson was still disappointed by the result. The team lineup featured Nicky Deverdics who was released at the end of last season by Newcastle. The midfielder did well in the game but looked far from first team fitness.
