Wembley, Wembley...

...we're the famous Blackpool FC and WE WON AT WEMBLEY.

Savour the day. Savour the day when the mighty Blackpool Football Club climbed out of the lower leagues and tasted Championship football for the first time in 29 years. The Seasiders - described as 'sleeping giants` in several national newspapers - served up a treat at the new Wembley as they swept aside a decidedly poor Yeovil Town outfit, whom never rose to the occasion.

Right from the first whistle Simon Grayson`s men were the more potent of the two teams - with Keigan Parker becoming an integral figure - and but for some theatrical 'diving` by the bright young Scot, The Tangerines may have had an early penalty. As he ran away from goal his heels were clipped from behind accidentally, and on another day it may have been given but Parker`s literal knee-jerk reaction must have helped Andy D`Urso in waving away any claims.

Claus Jorgensen, as always, was driving through the middle of midfield and saw a shot deflected over the Town bar after five minutes as 'Pool penetrated the fragile looking green hoped backline.

Despite the early pressure from the 'Pool, the underdogs could have taken the lead on ten minutes when an Aaron Davies corner was whipped into the six yard box which saw 'keeper Rachubka leave it and Forbes duck underneath. If an attacker had found his head connect with the ball, Yeovil would have been one up.

This seemed to inspire Blackpool who were sporting a new tangerine (although that was surely dark orange?) kit, made by Carlotti which looked very smart. Wes Hoolahan made room for Forbes to have a shot just inside the eighteen yard box but his effort hit the side netting. Moments after left back Williams rifled a shot just wide from 25 yards and an exquisite Parker cross somehow missed Andy Morrell`s despairing dive.

Claus Jorgensen was showing his class at the heart of the 'Pool attacks, as he did the simple things well, moving the ball wide to Hoolahan and collecting balls and slowing play down well - which was needed as Hoolahan and co were going at 100mph non-stop. The link up play was exceptional between the strikers and this presented Hoolahan with a chance but his shot was screwed wide.

Then came the pivotal moment in the playoff final. Parker, who was a threat all afternoon, was fouled by the clumsy Terrell Forbes just outside the area. Robbie Williams stepped up to place the ball around the wall and under Steve Mildenhall to send the 30,000 or so 'Pool fans wild. It had taken 44 minutes but Larry`s men deserved their half time lead. However, Yeovil may feel unlucky that it wasn`t 1-1 at the break as Aaron Davies showed his quality as a well struck freekick was saved expertly well by Rachubka in goal as he tipped over.

Half time: Blackpool 1 - 0 Yeovil Town

Soon after half time Blackpool doubled their lead. Keigan Parker saw space between the right back and central defender on 52 minutes and pointed to where he wanted Williams to place the ball thirty yards from goal. The full back duly obliged and Parker took the ball on before curling fantastically well beyond the keeper who had no chance - a goal reminiscent of his at Bloomfield Road last week against Oldham - only this one was all the sweeter.

To be honest there was only going to be one team to score again, and that was Blackpool. The team had stretched Yeovil all game but now The Glovers were chasing the game this became easier as time drew on.

The Town stopper Mildenhall saved well from Parker and Morrell, and looked desperate to thwart the team who had turned him down last year when he was on trial at Bloomfield Road.

Obviously Yeovil saw more of the ball at 2-0 down but they could only muster one chance up - and that fell to Marcus Stewart who saw his header from six yards bounce up over Rachubka`s crossbar: a glaring miss.

The very impressive Adrian Forbes (well done Forbsey in the last few games) was replaced by David Fox - with the former Swansea man getting a well deserved huge reception from the Blackpool contingent. Scott Vernon and Simon Gillett also got a game, as they came on for the unbelievably brilliant Parker and Hoolahan. Hopefully Wes hasn`t played his last game for 'Pool but if he has I say thank you to the young Irish magician for providing us fans with great memories over the past nine months.

As the final whistle was blown by Andy D`Urso (who I thought had a credible game) the cheers coming from the Seasiders end of Wembley were deafening, as men, women and children danced and hugged each other such was the jubilation.

Well done Larry, Tony Parker, Tommo, the rest of the backroom staff and the players. Oh…and Mr Belokon.
