Impressive Win For Pool

Blackpool
5 - 0
Scunthorpe

Bloomfield Road

16/01/16

Attendance: 6,004

Referee:

Scunthorpe were powerless to stop a ruthless, attacking Blackpool side as the Tangerines picked up a 5-0 win in their most impressive performance this season.

It was the type of performance that Pool have been lacking for most of this season and fans were finally able to see a good, attacking display from their side.

Pool got off to a flying start as Tom Aldred headed in Jim McAlister's free kick to give his side an early 1-0 lead.

It wasn't long before the Seasiders added their second either when some excellent play between Norris and Redshaw gave the latter the perfect opportunity to feed Brad Potts through on goal who made no mistake to make the score 2-0.

Scunthorpe did threaten through Luke Williams and Kevin Van Veen but neither could beat Colin Doyle.

Paddy Madden also went close but glanced a header wide and soon after Potts added a third when David Norris sent him clear on goal and again he calmly finished.

It was a fantastic half from McDonald's side and their good play would continue in the second half as David Norris poked home a fourth after a goalmouth scramble which saw several players go close.

Scunthorpe attempted to hit back through Neal Bishop's volley at Doyle and went close again when the keeper saved Madden's powerful effort.

Redshaw and Potts were fantastic all afternoon and helped the Tangerines add their fifth as Potts played in Danny Philliskirk for his first Blackpool goal.

Full time 5-0.

It really was a great day for Neil McDonald and his side who simply haven't been good enough in many games this season.

Hopefully this can be the game to be an upturn in fortunes in Blackpool's season and this game has shown what can be achieved when an attacking, creative tactic is adopted.

Blackpool need to progress now and show they can do this again, but with two tough games against Walsall and Gillingham next it will be very tough.

Star Player

Brad Potts, the midfielder got two goals and was a part of everything good Blackpool did going forward
