Wigan v Blackpool

Wigan
0 - 1
Blackpool

DW Stadium

12/12/15, 3pm

Attendance: 8,424

Referee:

A Tom Aldred header was enough to give Blackpool the 3 points away at Wigan Athletic.

There were doubts about the game beforehand due to the weather but the game went ahead as planned.

Juusi Jaaskelainen was called in to action early on, tipping David Ferguson's effort round the post.

Mark Cullen should have put the Seasiders ahead not long after but he could only head into Jaaskelainen's arms after some good work from Jim McAlister.

Wigan did get into the game around the half hour mark and Dean Lyness was called into action to clear Don Cowie's cross.

Blackpool's good start was rewarded on 36 minutes though, when David Ferguson's in-swinging free kick was met perfectly by Tom Aldred who scored his first goal in Tangerine.

Will Grigg had a chance to equalise before the half ended but his effort rolled wide.

Wigan were a much improved side in the second half and Donervon Daniels headed just over soon after the restart.

Some great defending from Clark Robertson then denied Wigan their next big chance of the game as Reece James was denied an effort on goal.

Lyness was then forced to make a good stop from Grigg's effort, tipping the ball over the bar.

Blackpool looked like they were going to hang on for the three points as Lyness made another good stop from Michael Jacobs' low strike.

Hayden White could have made it two late on but the score finished 1-0.

This was certainly a surprise result for Pool against a high flying Wigan that beat the Seasiders 4-0 not long ago.

However Pool defended very well yesterday and whilst there are still worries about the lack of goals from strikers, they took their chance when it came and were resilient.

Pool are now out of the relegation zone and up to 19th.

Star Player

Tom Aldred, the defender got the winner and put in a resilient display at the back.
