Blackpool vs Rochdale

Attendance: 7,076

Referee:

Blackpool fell to a defeat in their first home game of the season against a Rochdale side with a 100% win record so far this season.

Pool lacked quality in almost every area as defensive errors, a lack of creativity and poor quality going forward meant the Tangerines never really did enough to win the game.

The first half was relatively uneventful but Rochdale had the better of the chances. Peter Vincenti and Donal McDermott both had chances to score for the away side and Pool only really had one decent opportunity but Mark Cullen fired straight at the keeper.

Rochdale came out the better side in the second half and took the lead on 58 minutes when McDermott picked up the ball and was allowed to run through on goal before firing past Kyle Letheren. Pool did manage to create some chances and Brad Potts could have scored with a header, but it was Rochdale who doubled their lead late on when Ian Henderson capitalised on a Lloyd Jones error and calmly finished.

After a terrible game on Tuesday, it was hoped Pool could respond in a positive way yesterday, this wasn't the case. It was again obvious that the team lacked experience and quality in many areas and simply weren't good enough to compete with a side that has what Pool are lacking.

The signs aren't great. It's too early to write off this young side as being not good enough but McDonald is going to have to do some work in the transfer market before the deadline to improve his squad. Only time will tell if he's backed by Oyston to get the players he needs.
