When a win is needed.....

Blackpool
2 - 0
Yeovil Town

Bloomfield Road

25/02/06 15:00

Attendance: 5,747

Referee:

The Seasiders were forced into a late change in the starting eleven when Sean Taylor picked up a injury which ment Jason Wilcox would step in. The only other change from last Saturday was Keigan Parker came in for Keith Southern, and the team reverted to 4-4-2.

FIRST HALF: Kicking towards the Kop first half, Blackpool started brightly and it was clear that Wilcox and Taylor looked like they could form a formidable partnership down the left. Do you remember the last decent duo down that side?

And only after a few minutes, Keigan Parker looked as if he was brought down by Weale in the oppostion goal, only for Mr Robinson to award Yeovil a goal kick. Ian Morris also posed a threat with attempts from range which didn't really trouble. Then, the best chance of the half, when Parker with Morris were not flagged offside when clearly they were. This lead to Parker taking the ball on, only to get it all wrong, firing staright at the keeper. But this then rebounded to Murphy, who hit Weale with his attempt.

On the half hour mark, something very bizarre happened. A corner, taken by Neil Wood, (the set pieces looked excellent all afternoon) wasn't cleared and Clarke was presented with a perfect oppurtunity (but did look offside!! again) and he nodded the ball up, like a kid thinking he's being clever, and poked the ball wide with his headed attempt. A shocking miss.

Yeovil looked the stronger until half time and had two decent chances in which a free kick was flighted over and the once pool target Kevin Gall missed another chance. Also, Paul Terry, brother of John, was subbed and did not look happy!!! Someone needs to remind him that he's playing in League 1!

SECOND HALF: Well, I don't know what was said at half time but it worked for Simon Grayson! No sooner than the fans were finding their seats again, pool had a free kick 25 yards from goal, which Neil Wood took into the near post, but then seemed to get a deflection of Lindegaard. I'm sure Wood will claim it!

Then six minutes later, another set piece, and another goal. Neil Wood involved again, taking the corner and John Murphy scored from inside the six yard box.

The rest of the game went past without much to report, but the main thing is that pool ground out the result and are out of the drop zone.

Star Player

Andy Taylor - had a superb home debut linking up well with Blackburn hero Jason Wilcox. Looked very good on the ball and can defend. Hopefully his services can be secured for the season.....

Player Ratings

Lee Jones

He did OK, did well when called upon.

Keith Lasley

He is no Marc Joseph but, he did well on the ball and intervened vitally on occasions.

Rob Edwards

Everything he did, he did well and looked comfortable.

Peter Clarke

Excellent performance, had Jevons under wraps along with Edwards. Should have scored though!

Ian Morris

Did well, but never really got going. Playing on the right doesn't suit him.

Marcus Bean

Looked off the pace first half but picked up in the second and played smoothly.

Neil Wood

Good set pieces all game and, along with Bean did better in the second half and controlled the game.

Jason Wilcox

Conbined brilliantly with Taylor and they look as if they could provide a very good partnership together.

John Murphy

Pleasing for him to get a goal but he didn't perform against bigger defenders.

Keigan Parker

Had two good chances in the first half which he should have done better. Needs to stay on his feet, he's gaining a reputation.

Manager Rating

Simon Grayson - some credit has to go to him. He must have said something at half time.....

Not a great performance but it's the result that

And I'm sure that's what the management are thinking. Out of the bottom four. Job done for the weekend and hopefully Bradford will see us climb even further.
