Preview: Blackpool v Peterborough United
August 14, 2011
The games are coming thick and fast as Blackpool host Peterborough United on Sunday afternoon. Darren Ferguson brings his newly-promoted side to Bloomfield Road looking to build on a solid 2-1 home win against Crystal Palace last week.
However, the Seasiders made a brilliant start to the campaign with their 1-0 away win at fancied Hull City and are favourites to make it back-to-back wins.
And some good news coming out of the club today is that key players Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Keith Southern are set to be offered more lucrative extended contracts as Ian Holloway fights to keep the nucleus of his squad happy with their lot.
Both players should start as the manager is set to make eleven changes from the penalty defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on Thursday night.
Darren Ferguson thinks a trip to Pool is as tough as it gets in the Championship:
I thought Blackpool were unlucky not to stay in the Premiership last season and no one should be in any doubt that this game is as tough an away game as we could have,
"They are a very good footballing side with plenty of goals in them but we have done a lot of work ahead of the game and spent a lot of time with the team working on ways to deal with the specific threats they will pose us.
"Not that we will be changing our approach to the game. I will be sticking with the diamond formation. It is a way of playing that suits the players we have at the club and it is a system that I am sure will cause them problems.'
Blackpool Team News:
Ollie is set to make eleven changes for the game. Matt Gilks is expected to be fit following his niggle whilst away with Scotland in the week.
Kevin Phillips looks likely to start with Gary Taylor-Fletcher and probably Brett Ormerod either side of him.
Player to watch: Gary Taylor-Fletcher
After scoring the winner at Hull last week, GTF will hopefully continue his good early form.
As mentioned above, he is to be offered a new deal. Maybe a couple more goals would boost that pay packet!
Peterborough United Team News:
Goalkeeper Joe Lewis is missing through injury with ex-Exeter City man Paul Jones set to take the gloves.
Defender Josh Thompson is in the squad after his loan move from Celtic.
Player to watch: Grant McCann
I've always been an admirer of Grant McCann, who is able to pull the strings from midfield. He gets goals, has good deadball delivery and makes teams tick.
