Coventry vs Blackpool

The last time a Blackpool team went to Coventry and won, Joe Smith was two years into his tenure at Bloomfield Road and the ancient forum member 'Platos' wasn't born!

Truth be told, there haven't been that many games between the two sides historically, but both Simon Grayson and Tony Parkes struggled at the Ricoh Arena when they were in charge of the Seasiders - scared of losing, which in turn hampered the team's performance on both occasions.

Ian Holloway has changed the perception of Blackpool though, and the Sky Blues are now the team going into this fixture terrified.

City boss Chris Coleman this week stated that 'Pool were a scalp and that his side certainly wouldn't be attacking.

Sounds good, eh?

What does worry me is that we generally struggle against teams who sit tight and wait for their opportunities.

Coleman isn't scared. He's playing mind games. After probably having the Seasiders watched two or three times before the game, Coventry believe that playing the style of football which Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley employed against us, could bear fruit.

Because they know... if they attacked us, we'd destroy them.

Vital Quotes:

Holloway on a laughable bid for Charlie Adam: 'I've told Charlie about the offer.

'We have a bit of a pact: that I want to get him to a club that is - if I'm allowed to say this - in a much, much better situation than us. Why leave Rangers to come to Blackpool and then step sideways? Why do that when I think he can step up?

'I think he will still be here at the end of the season. It is normally after 18 months that I lose them!

'After 18 months, if I haven't received the offers I have told the board I think Adam is worth I'll be bitterly disappointed.'

Blackpool-born Coventry assistant boss Steve Harrison talks differently to Coleman about the game: 'We can go into the Blackpool game and hopefully try to express ourselves a bit more.

'Ian Holloway has done a fantastic job there and they have the players to dominate teams.'

Coventry City Team News:

Coventry have James McPake fit after he was substituted at Swansea on Tuesday nigth with a migraine.

In-form Freddy Eastwood could miss the game for the home side - which would prove massive news for 'Pool who always seem to allow the striker to score.

Clinton Morrison makes his 400th league start of his career.

Player to watch: Keiran Westwood

The goalkeeper signed for Coventry last season and has been attracting the attention of bigger clubs.

His agility between the sticks is magnificent and the former Carlisle man will be looking to put in a show against 'Pool - much like in his United days.

Blackpool Team News:

Ollie welcomes back Jason Euell who was given Saturday off to be with his family. He's unlikely to start, with the front three of Bannan, Ormerod and Taylor-Fletcher likely.

However, Daniel Nardiello is pushing for a start after his impact substitute appearance in the win on Saturday

No new faces are expected before tomorrow, with the deals set to be done on Monday.

Billy Clarke, Danny Coid and Stephen McPhee are all still out.

Player to watch: Neal Eardley

The right back is up against Michael McIndoe. Eardley's defending has come into question recently, but hsi bombing forward is always noted as a strength to the side.

He'll have to be on his toes though, with McIndoe not much of a defender from midfield.
