After a disappointing exit in the F.A. Cup Pool are back to league action with a trip to the Valley to face Charlton.
Pacy winger Jerome Thomas returns from illness and Jonathan Fortune can take his place in defense after an ankle injury. Alan Pardew will also be able to pick left-back Chris Powell and striker Chris Iwelumo who were rested for the cup. Sam Sodje is still ban after a good old two footer, skipper Andy Reid has a knee injury and will remain sidelined.
Andy Reid has been pulling the strings so far this season but his attacking midfield partner Zheng Zhi has done well too. Attacking from the middle of the park the Chinese player has scored five goals this season after signing in the summer following a loan period. His last goal came on Saturday in the F.A. Cup draw with West Brom.
Shaun Barker should return after suspension, meaning Ian Crainey moving back to his natural position of left back. Wes Hoolahan may also start in midfield. Stephen McPhee should make his debut after signing this week from Hull, he might replace Scott Vernon.
After signing this week McPhee should start against the Addicks. McPhee has already scored twice this season against Charlton for Hull, one goal in each encounter.
The teams last met in the F.A. Cup third round at the Valley, John Hills put Pool ahead only for Graham Stuart and Jason Euell to grab goals in the second half. The last league encounters was back in 1980, the last win at the Valley was in 1976, Pool running out 2-1 winners.
