Attentions turn away from the league to the Cup with the visit of Championship new boys Barnsley to Bloomfield Road.
Defender Ian Evatt has been cleared to play by QPR. Other loanees Danny Graham and Simon Gillett have not been cleared by their respective clubs.
Adrian Forbes has is a doubt after picking up a knock in the second half of Saturday's victory at Bristol. Also out of the game due to injury are Simon Wiles, Matthew Blinkhorn, John Murphy and Lee Jones.
After grabbing his first goal of the season at Bristol on Saturday the former Oldham man will be looking to add to his tally. Vernon is a confidence player and with that goal under his belt the lanky forward should be able to kick on from Saturday's triumph.
The Tykes have had a good start the season after gaining promotion last season, despite an opening day defeat to Cardiff they have notched up wins against Hull and Colchester. Saturdays draw at home with Southampton leaves them 8th in the championship on 7 points.
In the summer Andy Ritchie secured the services of scoring midfielder Michael McIndoe, the Scot has already had an impact at Oakwell scoring in 3-2 win at Hull.
Manager Richie has said that he will make changes giving some of his fringe players a run out, this includes, Michael Coulson, Colin Healey, Anthony McParland, Vito Marrone and former Pool loanee Tommy Wright.
Richards scored in the 2-2 draw between the two sides last season and this season the midfielder has found his scoring boots, netting in the last three games on the trot. The former Blackburn Rovers trainee will be looking to add to his tally at Bloomfield Road.
The teams met in the league last season and both times the scores ended level, at Oakwell, Pool threw away a two nil lead in a moment of madness in the second half, goals from Simon Wiles and now Tyke Tommy Wright had given Pool the lead but goals from Richards and Howard in two minutes of each other turned things around.
In the reverse fixture Keigan Parker gave Pool the lead but Brian Howard once again equalised for the Yorkshire side.
