Disgusted by Theresa May who made a "private" visit ensuring lots of film and photo coverage of herself looking concerned and caring but ensuring she wasn't asked questions. At least Sadiq Khan was prepared to front up to local anger. Our PM has no balls.

The company that did the reburbishment put out a statement yesterday that the work met all building control, health and safety and fire regulations. Today it was amended to the work just met all building regulations

The authorities have also said there at least 41 people unaccounted for and 17 of the people in hospital on the critical list. The chief fire officer has also said she hopes the final deaths do not get into 3 figures.

Possibly a classic case of safe (ish) materials being combined into a system with unanticipated dynamics?

Having worked in the field of cladding and insulation as a General Manager, all I can say is that the 'cladding' used was an aluminium faced insulation. The directive here is that they must meet all 'fire wall' standards and have 'fire separation' between each residential unit with no penetrations for services unless strict stud staging is used. It sounds like these didn't meet that standard as, according to residents, there were multiple pipes and workings etc that came through these walls with no fire protection then offered as they weren't clad in fire resistant coverings.
It sounds like a disaster waiting to happen and it only needed a small flame near a wall which then penetrated upwards through the cavity and as it didn't have the capacity to contain the fire, it spread within minutes.

In my opinion only.

R.I.P. to all those who have lost their lives....

I now read that the makers of the insulation cladding recommend nothing over 10 meters high due to combustible materials being used...
My thoughts on that are that NO building materials should contain combustible materials regardless of where and how you're going to use it....
