Champions League A Bridge Too Far

Blackpool today lost (!) their first game in a number of months after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of last season's Champions League outfit, FK Ventspils.

Simon Grayson's men, fielding Matty Kay, John Hills and Danny Coid in midfield along with Claus Jorgensen, went behind on 26 minutes after a freekick was struck against the bar before cannoning back against Rhys Evans in goal and in the net.

A couple of chances went begging, as 'Pool tried to take a strangle hold of the game.

Interest to note that Stephen Crainey took the freekicks today; filling Robbie Williams set piece boots?

On the hour mark a free header and lack of Seasiders communication meant Ventspils scored again and took a 2-0 lead.

A few bookig followed, after what described by Steve Canavan of the 'Blackpool Gazette' as a 'brawl involving Ian Evatt, Michael Jackson and a striker for Ventspils'.

The jouralist went onto say to BBC Radio Lancashire that 'the game was a thriller' but sadly with a rather sarcastic tone!

Blackpool tried their upmost to get a goal but it was never to be.

The run of wins is over, folks! Sack the board!

It's just not good enough! GRAYSON OUT!!!! (guffaw) Oh well, it had to end sometime, I'd rather it be now than in the league proper ;-)
