'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Oldham 1 - 2 Blackpool

Pool welcomed back Paul Rachubka in goal but kept the same outfield ten. The first half of the match was scrappy with referee Williams handing out the cards. Gregan, Wellens, Jorgensen and Forbes all picking up cards in a hard fought first 45.

Pool came out in the second half the better side and piled on the pressure, a Williams corner found Barker who headed in from close range in front of the travelling hoards.

Former Pool keeper Les Pogliacomi then had to leave the field picking up an injury stretching for a Forbes cross, his replacement Blayney then kept the score down saving from Parker on numerous occasions and forcing Morrell wide of goal.

Oldham then managed to get themselves back in to match with a penalty which was disputed by the Pool back line, Jackson holding on to Porter, Liddell's shot nestled in the right corner wide of the outstretched hand of Rachubka.

But the away team spurred on by a tremendous away support went forward again, Morrell setting Hoolahan free, rounding the keeper and slotting into an unguarded net.

Pool deserved more from the afternoon with Parker having four great chances to extend the lead, but a 2-1 lead going into the second leg should be adequate to set up a trip to Wembley.
