'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Promo Files

On Friday / Saturday four the teams in the promotion mix played each other but it was only Yeovil who managed to pull away from the chasing pack.

Friday

Scunthorpe 1-0 Yeovil

The win saw the Iron move seven points clear at the top of League One. A Nathan Jones's own goal gave the home side the victory over play-off hopefuls Yeovil.

This win stretched their impressive unbeaten run to 19 games and could have had more from Billy Sharp who has bagged 26 goals so far this season.

Saturday

Bristol City 0-0 Swansea

City had the chance to close down that seven point gap on Scunny but stuttered against Swansea.

The football highlight of the match was Swansea defender Dennis Lawrence smashing the ball against the post in the first half. The overall highlight of the game was Gary Johnson stepping on to the pitch and tackling (well kicking the ball away ) Swan`s Iriekpen for which Johnson was sent off for.

Millwall 1-0 Nottingham Forest

This defeat really dented the automatic promotion hopes for Forest. Neil Harris with the only goal for the home side who are just outside of the play-off hopefuls group at the moment.

Oldham 1-1 Huddersfield

Chris Porter gave the home side the lead to keep up with Pool in the play-offs. It was Porters 20 league goal of the season, the first time a Latic`s player has managed the feat in 29 years. But former player Luke Beckett grabbed an equalizer in the 78 minute.

Port Vale 0-2 Carlisle

Carlisle for some are now the surprise package and are closing in on the last play-off spot.

Former Pool loan Danny Graham grabbed his sixth goal for the club in the win at Vale with the other coming from Joe Garner. Luke Joyce was sent off for the home side for two bookings but the Cumbrians strolled home with the win with Garners strike being one of the goals of the weekend in league one.

The Table on Saturday night

1. Scunthorpe 41 82
2. Bristol City 41 76
3. Forest 41 71
4. Oldham 41 68
5. Blackpool 41 68
6. Yeovil 41 67
7. Swansea 41 62
8. Carlisle 41 62
9. Tranmere 41 59

So bar the Oldham result it was a good Saturday for the with Pool defeating Tranmere it mean that Merseysiders have it all to do now to secure a play-off spot.

Monday's matches to come...
