Match Postponed But Armfield Tributes Continued

Match Postponed But Armfield Tributes Continued

Blackpools game at Bloomfield Road against Charlton Athletic was postponed just 1 hour to kick off, and just minutes before the planned tributes to Jimmy Armfield were planned to start.

Referee Carl Boyeson took the difficult decision to postpone the match shortly after 2pm.

The tributes to Armfield were still to go ahead with Blackpool giving supporters free access into the ground.

Just after the postponement, Charlton manager Karl Robinson took his players out to the Jimmy Armfield statue where fan tributes had already begun. Blackpool Manager Gary Bowyer then took out the Blackpool players to stand with Charlton players and Blackpool fans.

A minutes applause was held outside Bloomfield Road before the turnstiles were opened and fans went into Bloomfield Road.

Tributes continued, and the planned tributes continued up until the time kick off should have been.

Blackpool took the right decision to continue the tributes after the game had been postponed, the tributes could well have been postponed aswell, But Blackpool have managed to show some compassion to the one club man, so that he could get the send off and tributes that he deserves.

The free access to the ground has also allowed more people to take part in the planned tributes that were happening inside Bloomfield Road

Do you think Blackpool made the correct decision to continue the tributes and give free access to Bloomfield Road, and did you go into the ground for the tributes? Have your say in our forum by clicking below
