Payne Praises Competition
Midfielder Jack Payne has been praising the competition within the Blackpool squad as being the driver behind his own individual showings.
Going into the Play Off Semi Final second leg against Luton Town, the 26 year old has been a key and consistent performer for us as the season drew to a close - playing in the last 16 matches - and he credited the competition in the middle of the park as being key to his own improvement.
Speaking to the Official Site in his own post game press conference, he explained.
'The last quarter of the season has probably seen my best football to be honest. I got in the team and my performances have made me stay in the team, so hopefully that can continue on Thursday. You know that you need to play well, because if you don't play well then people can come in and do better. It's good to have that competition around the place because it gives everyone a buzz, everyone needs to train well everyday and when you get into the game you know you've got to perform.'
Speaking ahead of Thursday evening's second leg, Blackpool hold the one goal advantage over Nathan Jones' side and Payne was looking for further improvement given the overall performance in the first leg.
'Obviously we got a lead, so we're grateful for that, but it's only one goal. We got one here and then we were 2-1 down within a matter of five minutes so we know it's only slender, but it's given us a good platform to go and build and hopefully get the right result.'
'I thought the first game was going to be a bit cagey, but to be fair it was like a basketball match in the first-half. We got on top a bit in the second-half and made it count, which is what we want to do when we go down there, stamp our authority on the game and play our game.'
