Blackpool got their season off to the worse possible start as the Tangerines crashed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest.
As you will well know, the Seasiders have had the worst possible Pre-Season anyone could imagine. They have only played two friendlies and the majority of the players who signed, were signed just before the season started, this meant that the players would not have played with each other until the first game of the League. The cost of signing the players late was shown drastically, as players were not registered in time to play against Nottingham Forest on the opening day. Unfortunately the players that were not registered were key players like; Ismael Miller, Jose Cubero and Oriol.
As there were a lot of players who were unregistered to play, this meant that the Seasiders only had four players on the bench and only two of them were first team players (Charles Dunne and Elliot Parish) the other two were youth team players.
On to the game and on a beautiful sunny day in Nottingham, the Reds welcomed home Stuart Pearce and this created a fantastic atmosphere around the stadium. Surprisingly it was Blackpool who had the first clear cut chance of the game, as Nathan Delfouneso was left unmarked in the box but the striker could not divert the ball goal-wards. Nottingham Forest then took the lead after Andy Reid`s shot hit the post, winger Michail Antonio put the rebound into the back of the net. Five minutes later and Forest doubled their lead with a magnificent Chris Burke effort. The half time whistle blew and the game was already over.
Blackpool could of gave up in the second half but they didn`t, the Tangerines actually played some very nice football. The Seasiders almost pulled one back, but Andrea Orlandi`s shot whistled just passed the post. The game fizzled out and the game finished 2-0. Blackpool`s players should be proud the way they played under the circumstances.
After the game Blackpool boss Jose Riga said that he only has 9 eligible players on the morning of the game and that he can not carry on much longer like this. The Tangerines next game is against Shrewsbury Town in the Capital One Cup, hopefully players will actually be registered by then.
