'If It's Football, It's Vital'

On this day 2001

On 26th May 2001, Blackpool beat Leyton Orient 4-2 in the Division Three Play Off Final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Blackpool twice came from behind twice during the game. Blackpool had to recover themselves after a 27th Second error from Keeper Phil Barnes. Barnes slipped and let Tate straight past to score the easiest goal so far of his career.

Blackpool Equalise when Hughes heads in Simpsons corner, but the joy was short lived as two minutes later, Orient retook the lead.

On the stroke of Half time, Brian Reid scrambles in Gary Parkinsons deep cross, to give Blackpool that all important goal to take into half time.

In the second half, Blackpool were more confident and ran out winners thanks to goals from Paul Simpson and Brett Ormerod, to give Blakpool an instant return Back to the second division.

Blackpool Team: Barnes, Hills, Parkinson, Hughes, Reid, Coid, Wellens, Clarkson, Simpson, Ormerod, John Murphy. Subs: Bushell, Mike Milligan, Thompson, Neil Murphy, Jamie Milligan.
