Blackpool 1-1 Leeds United

Blackpool 1-1 Leeds United

A second half Thomas Ince strike earned Blackpool their first point in December against a hard-working Leeds United side.

Both teams tried to establish control in the early proceedings, but it was the visitors who went ahead; Danny Pugh`s left-wing cross found its way to full-back Lee Peltier at the far post, who was able to head the ball beyond Gilks in the Blackpool goal. It was the former Liverpool defender`s first goal for The Whites.

Blackpool began the second half with a purposeful look as they dominated possession. The Seasiders finally grabbed their deserved equaliser in the 65th minute; Barry Ferguson`s free kick was headed clear but only as far as Ince, who took a touch to steady himself then let fly with his left foot. His shot took a deflection off Leeds centre-half Marius Zaliukas which left keeper Paddy Kenny with no chance. It was Ince`s first goal in eight league games, and ended a run of four defeats in a row for the Seasiders.

Leeds felt that Blackpool`s Kirk Broadfoot deserved a red card after he pulled back in-form striker Ross McCormack when the frontman was through on goal. However, with the home side pressing for their first win in December, Broadfoot was shown his second yellow card after lunging into a challenge on Zaliukas in the final minutes.

The result lifts Blackpool to 10th position in the Sky Bet Championship table, whilst Leeds maintain their play-off place. Next up for the Seasiders is a home game against Brighton & Hove Albion, whilst Leeds travel to fellow promotion chasers Nottingham Forest.
