Broadfoot And Mackenzie Sign On

Broadfoot And Mackenzie Sign On

As many Blackpool fans had hoped, the central defensive pairing ok Kirk Broadfoot and Gary Mackenzie will both be back playing at Blackpool next season.

Pool completed the signing of Gary Mackenzie earlier today, with the fee believed to be around the 100k mark. Mackenzie made 12 appearances under Paul Ince last season and his excellent defensive performances won him many supporters during his loan spell at the club.

Mackenzie's permanent move to the club was never really in doubt, but with the talks being delayed many fans had a slight fear that the deal would collapse. However Mackenzie is delighted to have signed for the club and told the Blackpool website 'the three months that I had here were pretty good, it gave me a taste of championship football and made my mind up of where I wanted to play'.

The news about Kirk Broadfoot also broke earlier today, with the Scotland defender signing a new one-year deal with an option for a further year with the club. Having Broadfoot and Mackenzie at the back will certainly be a big boost for the club next season, with the defensive partnership between the two being strong in most of the games they played together.

Pool fans can only hope that this positive news is followed up by even more good news.
