Money Needs To Be Spent This Summer
With the transfer window now being officially open for a few days, and with many deals having been done already. Pool fans will want money to be spent urgently if the team are to competitively compete in the championship next season.
Recent reports have linked Blackpool with a million pound move for Leeds United striker Ross McCormack, but with Chairman Karl Oyston usually unwilling to spend that amount of money on a player these reports are quite hard to believe. If these reports do have some truth behind them however, and McCormack does become the first big signing of the summer then fans can have high hopes for the rest of the transfer window. A signing like McCormack would most definitely silence a lot of Oyston's critics and if he allowed more money to be spent following that, then Pool might just have a better season than the last one.
However, as good as that all sounds we are all more likely to expect budget transfers for players who are nothing more than average. Although these players may reward Blackpool with another mediocre league finish next year, most fans will be wanting more than that.
If money had been spent when Pool were in the top flight then we'd have stayed up, and if money had been spent the past two seasons there could have been a fantastic chance of promotion. But with the squad ever decreasing in talent along with the likes of Matt Phillips and Tom Ince rumoured to be on their way out, Blackpool will have to spend money this year if they are to rebuild a squad which everyone believes can go out and win games.
