'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Oyston hopes for new manager today

If Karl Oyston appoints a new manager before tomorrow's match at Sheffield Wednesday, he deserves to be applauded.

Ian Holloway left for Crystal Palace on Saturday in a move that could throw Blackpool into turmoil. But the arrival of a successor - granted, if it is the correct one - so quickly has the potential to wipe the ill-feeling away.

That would get the Seasiders back on track to achieve their goals this season.

Oyston said this morning that he hopes to announce the new boss 'in the next 24 hours.'

'I'm hopeful we'll know who our new manager is by the end of today,' he said. 'I'm not going to but any timescale, but we want to move very quickly.

'We've spent most of the weekend talking to people. Matt Williams and myself have been considering where we go next.'

The chosen manager is thought to be currently out of work, with Oyston not wanting a repeat of the antics seen over the last week with the club's previous manager.

Names being talked about strongly are Paul Ince, Steve Thompson and Owen Coyle.

'It's a very difficult process and always a gamble, we'd like to make sure the gamble is calculated,' Oyston said.

'It's important we make the right appointment as quickly as we can.'
