Fleetwood boss has no interest in Pool job

Micky Mellon does not want to become Blackpool's new manager, despite being installed as one of the favourites to succeed Ian Holloway.

Holloway left Bloomfield Road for Crystal Palace yesterday morning, with chairman Karl Oyston indicating that he wants to make a quick appointment.

Steve Thompson is currently caretaker boss, overseeing the 4-1 defeat at Derby County, but it is unknown whether Oyston sees him as a viable long-term option.

Mellon, close friends with Holloway, is heavily backed financially by Fleetwood Town, who signed Barry Ferguson in the week and are set to extend two stands at Highbury.

The Town boss knows of the limitations set upon Holloway - a major contributive factor in leaving the club - and privately believes the Cod Army can go up from League 2 as champions this season.
