'Pool Slip To Oldham Defeat

It's two defeats from two for Blackpool this pre-season as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Oldham at Boundary Park this afternoon.

Making several changes for Tuesday night's defeat against Rangers, 'Pool lined up: Gilks, Crainey, Evatt, Baptiste, Eardley, Southern, Ferguson, Grandin, Ormerod, Taylor-Fletcher, Phillips.

It took just four minutes for ex 'Pool loanee Paul Dickov's Latics to take the lead - Matt Smith heading home.

Indeed, it was the hosts who were the better team early doors, giving Ian Holloway's men countless problems.

Matt Gilks made a fine save from one time 'Pool target Reuben Reid on the quarter hour as the Seasiders struggled to cope with attack after attack from their League One opponents.

After a disappointing first half that saw them fail to threaten the Oldham goal, 'Pool made eleven changes at the break, lining up for the second half thus: Halstead, Harris, Cathcart, Eastham, Hill, Husband, Sylvestre, Djordjic, Clarke, Egan, Almond.

Craig Cathcart nearly doubled Oldham's advantage just two minutes into the second half with an own goal, as 'Pool struggled again to have any real impact in the attacking third.

With just less than twenty minutes remaining, 'Pool made a further five changes; Dodd, Bignot, Tomsett, Bruna and Barkhuizen coming on for Eastham, Husband, Djordjic, Egan and Almond.

Just two minutes later Oldham were 2-0 up - David Mellor firing home an unstoppable freekick.

Cathcart once more nearly scored a own goal with 15 minutes left when his back pass nearly beat Mark Halstead, before the Seasiders finally opened their goalscoring account this summer with just over five minutes remaining; Paul Bignot cutting in off the flank and crossing for Billy Clarke to finish.

FT: Oldham 2-1 Blackpool
