Bignot On Verge Of Blackpool Move

Blackpool are this afternoon believed to be close to completing the signing of right full back Paul Bignot from Welsh side Newport County.

The 25 year old has been on trial with the Seasiders this week and played 45 minutes of Tuesday's friendly with Rangers.

The South Wales Argus reports that the ex Crewe defender has done enough in training and the Rangers game to impress 'Pool manager Ian Holloway and that the two clubs have agreed a fee for the player, involving a 'sizeable' downpayment and appearance related clauses.

It was revealed to Vital yesterday afternoon that the club were close to three new signings, causing club secretary Matt Williams to miss the Football League meeting in Leicester. With Bob Harris and Barry Ferguson confirmed as two of the signings (both on two year deals with one year options), it would appear that Bignot is the third.

Bignot has been attracting a lot of attention from Championship clubs due to his form for Newport, and impressed on trial at Leicester earlier this summer. However, the Seasiders have stolen a march on their rivals by making a concrete move for the player.

Speaking to the Argus, a Newport County official said:

'Paul has been fantastic for us for two seasons and now it looks as if he is going to be playing Championship football, it's great for him and it's great for the club.'

Should Bignot complete his move as expected, then it would further indicate that Neal Eardley is penned in to switch from his right back role to a central midfield one this season.
