Breaking News: Crainey Signs New Deal

In the last few minutes the Blackpool official site has announced that left back Stephen Crainey has signed a new contract with the Seasiders.

The 30 year old Scottish international has penned a new two year deal with an option for a further year after protracted negotiations following the expiry of his old one last month.

It's fair to say that this development has caught everyone on the hop this morning - it was widely suspected that Crainey would be leaving Bloomfield Road after angering 'Pool chairman Karl Oyston during negotiations.

Vital had it revealed to them earlier this week that despite 'Pool offering Crainey more than any other club, the Scot (perhaps under the influence of his agent, who has built up a reputation for being difficult to work with this summer according to other media outlets) tried to play the Seasiders off against Bristol City, by claiming that Keith Millen's side had offered him nearly 50% more than BFC when in fact they had offered nearly 50% LESS. When 'Pool found out about this deceit, their offer to the Scot was withdrawn.

However, obviously the differences between the two parties have been resolved and recognising that BFC presented the best option for him, Crainey this morning has penned a new deal in what will be a big boost to 'Pool manager Ian Holloway.
