'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Scout Report: Jason Brown

This Scout Report was initially going to be on Rotherham's Nicky Law, but it turns out that he's on the verge of signing for Motherwell, so instead I have decided to profile another man linked with the Seasiders - goalkeeper Jason Brown.

Now 29, Brown began his career at Charlton, but failing to make the grade at The Valley, moved to Gillingham in 2001.

Initially in and out of the side at Priestfield, Brown really began to catch the eye from the 05/06 season onwards, earning his first cap for Wales in the process.

His form at Gillingham earned him a move to Blackburn, but he found opportunities at Ewood Park very limited, making just nine league appearances in five years at the club before being released this summer.

Indeed, despite loan moves to Leeds, Leyton Orient and Cardiff during his time at Blackburn, he has made just 24 appearances over the last three years.

In that sense he fits our bill of signing players who haven't enjoyed the best of times recently and turning their careers around, but at the same time you wouldn't be comfortable with him being our first choice, and in an interview with Sky yesterday, Brown said he wants to move somewhere where he's guarenteed first team football - he had enough of warming the bench at Ewood Park. Therefore, I'd suggest that the Seasiders look elsewhere for a keeper this summer.
