Oyston: Stop Squawking!

Blackpool's training ground has been an issue/subject of derision for as long as I can remember.

When we were promoted to the Premier League, we were (yet again) promised a new training ground. However, with little movement on that score since this time last year (despite having long identified the site we want - just off Ballam Road in Lytham), some fans are understandably concerned about what is going on, especially given the prior false promises on the training ground (i.e. the 'We'll never train here again' line when Ian Holloway was appointed manager).

However, Karl Oyston has elected to slam those fans in an interview with the Blackpool Gazette, demanding that they 'stop squawking'!

Oyston said:

'We've only been in a position to fund the training ground as a stand-alone project for 12 months - that is nothing in planning terms, where you (have to) identify a site, get planning permission and do the necessary environmental studies and reports.

'A small, faceless minority may have been squawking about a training ground.

'But if they're not squawking about that, then they're squawking about something else.

'We got to the Premier League with the training ground we've got, so that would tend to indicate that it (building a new training ground) isn't necessary (Editor's note: We also got relegated from the Premier League - does that indicate that it is neccessary?!).

'But I think it is important that we keep moving forward and keep improving as a club.

'We need to keep trying to make sure we have facilities that help us develop and retain talent, and that we create the best possible working environment for all of our playing staff.

'It is an ongoing project and we will definitely get there. We will definitely have a new training ground at some point.

'But I really won't be forced into saying when it will happen. It will happen as soon as I am physically able to make it happen.' (Editor's note: Sounds promising... not!)

Those that 'squawk' just for the hell of it aside, Karl doesn't seem to realise that we 'squawk' because we care about the club.

And it's that caring about the club, that leads to us putting a hell of a lot of money into the club... money that allows Karl to take an interest free loan against the club... oh sorry, am I 'squawking' again?
