Oyston: We Want Better Players Than Ever Before

Late last night the Seasiders made their first signing of the summer (subject to a medical) in the shape of attacking midfielder Bojan Djordic.

This came just hours after club chairman Karl Oyston had been interviewed by the Blackpool Gazette, an interview in which he claimed that the club were trying to sign players who are 'better than ever before'.

Naturally, given this, and his earlier pledge to sign younger players, the signing of Djordic hasn't gone down too well.

What is promising though is that it looks like the Seasiders are trying to get business done earlier than usual, although it is still expected that the bulk of our business will be done after July 1st.

Oyston said:

'It (signing players) is more like a game of poker. The player asks for a certain amount of money and certain terms, and the agent tells you they've been offered certain amounts of money and certain terms, which sometimes is a big fib.

'So it is up to us to judge what they have been offered, and where we should pitch ourselves and that is the difficult part of football.

'But to think we can just go out and bring 10 players in very quickly, much as we'd like to, isn't necessarily that easy - especially the type of players that we are pitching for because they probably have a few more choices than players we've chased in the past.

'We're going for better players than we ever have before. Or at least I hope so given the money we're offering some of them!'

Let's hope that the signing of Djordic isn't an indication of the type of business we'll do this summer, and that Karl's recent words bear fruition, else he's going to need a thicker skin than he's already got!
