Evo: Wage Situation Still Not Clear

In an interview in today's Gazette, Blackpool centre half Ian Evatt has revealed that the squad are still in the dark about whether their wages will be cut in half following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

Virtually every player's contract includes a 50% wage cut if the club are relegated, although 'Pool manager Ian Holloway has pleaded with chairman Karl Oyston to ignore this as he feels his players don't deserve to have their incomes slashed.

It is believed that BFC are in the process of offering new contracts on 'Premier League money' to the likes of Evo, but despite this, the defender says he still doesn't know how much money he'll be taking home next season:

'There has been a lot of speculation about what will happen, but we've not really heard anything yet.

'It is down to the chairman to approach the boys and come up with something.

'At the moment, we are just in holiday mode really. But fingers crossed we can get stuff sorted sooner rather than later, because in years gone by we've left things till the last minute, and it hasn't been great.

'Hopefully, this year that won't happen, and we will get things sorted for pre-season and all start again afresh.'

Evatt's quotes add to the pressure on Oyston, who is rapidly being backed into a corner by his players and staff this summer.

One thing that will have brightened the chairman's mood no doubt though is the fact that he is trending on Twitter this afternoon, with Liverpool fans tearing him to shreds over the Charlie Adam deal. We'll have our view on this story later this evening, so stay tuned to Vital.
