Jimmy Armfield believes that Blackpool captain Charlie Adam is good enough to ply his trade for any of the top clubs in the Premier League.
With speculation suggesting that Adam is set for a move away from Bloomfield Road in the near future, 'Sir' Jim says that he deserves his move, and more importantly has proved that he can play at the highest level.
Speaking to the Gazette's Will Watt, Armfield said:
'I think he's good enough to play for the top four.
'I think he's proved that he can play in the top level.
'People keep saying he's a big fish in a small pond at Blackpool, but I don't agree with that.
'There are other good players at Blackpool, as well as Charlie, and he knows that.
'Charlie's been very good for Blackpool, but Blackpool's been very good for Charlie too.
'Charlie will have aspirations of playing in the Premier League after doing so well there last season.
'Now Blackpool are in the Championship, I can't blame him for wanting to play in the top flight.
'It's a very short career, and you have to make the best of it while you can.'
Today's paper version of The Gazette also features an interview with Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston, in which he confirms that the club are in talks with Liverpool but that no offer is on the table at present
There has been speculation that the Seasiders could hold out for as much as £10 million for the Scottish international, with whatever fee they get for him set to be split between various parties, including Charlie's old club Rangers.
