Vaughan To Leave Blackpool

It's the news that we were all dreading: David Vaughan today told Blackpool that he will not be signing a new deal at Bloomfield Road, meaning that he will leave the club on a free transfer later this summer.

Vaughan's contract expires at the end of this month, and despite a last gasp attempt to keep him in the form of a bumper contract offer, the Welsh international will leave the Seasiders on a Bosman in a few weeks time.

Although BFC pledged to match whatever wages he was offered elsewhere, it appears as if the lure of Premier League football was too much for the 28 year old to refuse.

Whilst it's unclear at present just where Vaughany will end up, there's no doubt that he deserves to remain in England's top tier after a sensational season in tangerine.

The news will come as a bitter blow to 'Pool manager Ian Holloway, who has spoken several times about the need to retain his best players, especially those out of contract. Indeed, Ollie has already gone on record to state just how hard it will be to replace Vaughany, especially as we're not going to get a fee for him.

The news will also increase the pressure on 'Pool chairman Karl Oyston, and serious questions will be raised as to why it took him until the end of the season to make a concerted effort to retain Vaughan's services.

That debate aside however, Vital would like to thank David Vaughan for his tremendous performances in tangerine and wish him and his family every success in the future. He will be missed.
