Super Brett Signs New Blackpool Contract

Blackpool legend Brett Ormerod has signed a new contract with the club, which could see the experienced striker see out his career at Bloomfield Road.

The 34-year-old will be with the Seasiders for another 12 months and Ian Holloway has the obligatory one-year option of extending the deal in June 2012.

Ormerod did have an option at the end of the Premier League campaign but it was decided that the club wouldn't be taking that up on him.

This saw two theories about his wages come out: the first being that Ormerod's salary has now been slashed and the other being that he commands a bigger wage packet now than he would have done had BFC taken up his option.

It looks like the former but in reality it doesn`t matter. The important thing is that an integral member of the 2009/10 Championship playoff winning side remains a seaside for the foreseeable future.

And that is something Brett himself is delighted about.

'I've always said that my heart is here and when I got offered a new contract I was very happy to sign,' he said.

'I had quite a few options, but once I knew Blackpool wanted to keep me I was quite happy to sort the contract out.'

There is also speculation as to whether Ormerod is looking into completing his coaching badges and following Stephen McPhee into the tangerine set up at the end of his playing days.

One thing we do know is that if Super Brett can fire another 13 Championship goals from wide positions, the Seasiders might not be far off where they want to be at the end of the season.
