'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Varney Wants 'Pool Return

In a interview with the Blackpool Gazette today, forward Luke Varney has revealed that he would 'snap their hands off' if Blackpool offered him a deal this summer.

The Derby frontman spent this season on loan at Bloomfield Road, scoring five goals in the Premier League.

However, his future remains unclear; whilst the Seasiders are still believed to have the option of signing Varney permanently for a fee in the region of £250,000, for the time being, Varney has returned to Pride Park.

If the Seasiders don't make a move for the player, then BBC Radio Derby report that Nigel Clough is still likely to sell the 28 year old anyway, as the Rams look to cash in on him before his contract expires next summer.

Varney's wages could well be an issue for the 'Pool (hence why we took him on loan in the first place), but his interview in The Gazette perhaps hints that there may be room for negotiation on his part.

Speaking to the paper, Varney said:

'I spoke to the gaffer briefly after the Manchester United game and told him that if there was ever an opportunity to come back I'd snap his hand off.

'You never know in football. Even if there was a case of me coming back on loan I'd definitely embrace that. I'd never say never.

'It is a place I know, and if two clubs came in for me and a decision had to be made, I'd choose Blackpool straightaway.

'Whatever happens, I'd like to wish the club and everyone involved all the very best.

'If I don't see them again next season, then I'll be cheering them on from wherever I may be.'

Although Varney suffered a dip in form during the second half of the season, resulting in him being in and out of the team, there is no doubt that, on the whole, he impressed in the Premier League, with his aerial ability and direct running causing even the best of defences problems.

I for one would be favour of seeing him return to the seaside... after all, for £250,000, can we really do any better?
