Ian Evatt Wins Vital Player Of The Season

There will be a surreal mood at Bloomfield Road tonight as the Player of the Season awards take place; so much has been achieved by so many, and yet ultimately the 'Pool have been relegated.

One man that applies to especially is Ian Evatt, who of course sadly scored a crucial own goal at Old Trafford yesterday.

In what will be a bittersweet evening for the centre half, he has picked up the Vital Player of the Season award voted for by members of this site and network.

Unfortunately Vital will not be present at Bloomfield Road tonight to give Evatt his commerative shield, but the 29 year old joins previous winners Charlie Adam, Alex Baptiste, Kaspars Gorkss and Shaun Barker in being recognised for his contributions in tangerine.

In a five way scrap for this season's award, Evatt's gallant displays at the back saw him poll 41% of the vote, holding off the challenge of second placed David Vaughan, who polled 37% of the vote.

Last year's winner Charlie Adam came in third on 15%, whilst DJ Campbell can count himself unlucky to have polled just 5%. Stephen Crainey came in fifth with 2%.

It is the fourth time in five years that a defender has won the award (a remarkable feat some might say, especially given the number of goals we shipped this season!), and although our shortlist only contained five players, the truth is that many more have made outstanding contributions in tangerine this season, and we thank them all for that.

Ian Evatt has been voted as your top dog though, so many congatulations to him!
