Vaughan Still Undecided On Future

David Vaughan has admitted in an interview with the Blackpool Gazette that his future at Bloomfield Road depends on Premier League survival - in short, if we go down, he's offski.

The issue of Vaughany's contract has been dragging on since last summer, and 'Pool are now running the very real risk of losing arguably their player of the season on a free transfer.

Although the club are believed to have moved closer towards the player's demands (which weren't earth shattering, it must be said) in recent months, the fact that Ian Holloway's side are just one point clear of the drop zone means that the Welsh international is prepared to wait until the season is done and dusted before deciding where his future lies.

Speaking to The Gazette, Vaughan said:

'I will think about my future in the summer.

'Obviously it depends which league we are going to be in next season. That will be a big factor in my decision.

'I will see what options are available, and I'll sit down with the gaffer, my family and everyone who is important and see what is best for me.'

There has been a lot of speculation about the player's future, and with such a statement there will undoubtedly be a lot more to come over the coming weeks.

Although he may well stay put, if he does leave, then hopefully the club will learn lessons from this episode and do everything in their power to prevent it from happening again. After all, Ollie's already said that the cost of replacing David Vaughan will be far greater than the cost of keeping him, especially if we lose him on a free.

The likes of Matt Gilks and Stephen Crainey are also out of contract this summer along with a host of other players and there's been no movement on contract renewals at all. We could be in for a real revolving door of a summer at Bloomfield Road once the transfer window opens.

Indeed, the Seasiders are already being linked with a batch of players for next season: David Nugent, Ashley Grimes, and a permanent deal for Jason Puncheon have all been mentioned of late (amongst other names).

But for now focus is firmly on retaining our Premier League status and the massive game at Blackburn tomorrow.

Stayed tuned to Vital because later this afternoon we will have our latest 'The Vital Run-In' piece looking at this weekend's games... could the Seasiders drop into the bottom three for the first time this season before the weekend is out?
