In the last few minutes, the Liverpool Echo has broken a story claiming that Liverpool made a fresh offer for Blackpool captain Charlie Adam last night, but that it was rejected by the Seasiders.
Aston Villa, Birmingham and Liverpool have now made a string of bids for 'Pool's talisman, but only Liverpool have breached the £5 million mark. Even so, they are still reported to be someway short of Blackpool's valuation of the player (which is said to be closer to £10 million).
Adam had a transfer request rejected last week after becoming aware of Liverpool's interest, but despite what his agent Kenny Moyes might say, it is believed that Adam is happy enough to stay at the Seasiders until the end of the season before moving on, hopefully after keeping the Seasiders in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has defended manager Ian Holloway over the fact that he will pocket a percentage of any fee received for Charlie Adam.
Holloway (like many other managers) has a clause in his contract saying that he gets a small percentage of any transfer fee for a player that he has trained and sold on for profit.
The national media have been aware of such a clause since at least May last year but decided to make a meal of it yesterday in a typical dig at Ollie and BFC.
Switching focus back to Liverpool's bid for Adam, it will be interesting to see if Kenny Dalglish's side make a fresh bid for the player amidst reports this morning that star striker Fernando Torres wants to move to Chelsea.
Liverpool rejected a £35 million bid from the champions for the player yesterday, but could their focus now be on keeping Fernando rather than signing Charlie?
As always, we'll have all the transfer news as it happens here on Vital.
