Vaughan To Sign New Deal?

When the transfer window opened this month we all had our targets for strengthening the squad, but at present keeping hold of the players we have seems to be the priority!

With speculation over the future of 'Pool skipper Charlie Adam raging, his fellow midfield maestro David Vaughan has dropped a hint that he could be set to sign a new contract with the Seasiders.

Speaking to The Gazette yesterday, the Welsh international said:

'I'd have to say he [Ian Holloway] is probably the best manager I have ever had because he has really helped me develop as a player.

'Obviously I had a lot of help at Crewe from Dario Gradi. He just knows good young players when he sees them and he teaches the game well.

'Dario teaches lads how he thinks football should be played and you can see his philosophy in every player who comes through Crewe.

'But as first-team manager Ollie is very good.

'He gets the players up for games. He's really good at that and a lot of the players appreciate that.

'Ollie came in and had the 4-3-3 formation he wanted to play. He saw me playing in the middle in that, rather than on the left wing, and that suited my game.

'He has changed everything for me personally and I am really grateful to him for that.'

Retaining Vaughan would be a massive boost to the Seasiders who risk losing him on a free transfer in the summer otherwise.

It is believed that the Seasiders may well have increased their wage cap to around the £15,000 mark to retain Vaughan, something that the fans will undoubtedly be delighted with (see our 'Vaughan Again' article further down the homepage as to why!).

Meanwhile, Stephen Crainey (also out of contract in the summer) is also expected to sign a new deal, but question marks remain over the future of goalkeeper Matt Gilks.
