Villa Man Backs Club Pricing
There was a thread on a couple of Blackpool forums yesterday (including this one) complaining about the Aston Villa pricing strategy for the Premiership clash on Wednesday.
Whilst Villa are charging travelling Seasiders £36, they are offering cut-price deals to home fans.
The ticket deal states that a group of four - of any age range - can purchase all their tickets for £40.
Blackpool have been guilty of similar things in the past. They charged away fans the same amount of money as 'Pool supporters, despite sitting in an uncovered and frankly shakey structure. RIP the 'Gene Kelly' away stand.
This time of strategy doesn't anger me personally, but fans on the net were aggrieved.
'I really do think we need to complain here. The away fans are being screwed,' one poster claimed, whilst another labelled it 'scandalous'.
However, editor of Vital Villa Jonathan Fear takes a different view. He says: 'Villa are entitled to make offers to home fans in order to try to fill the place. Times are tough and every penny counts.
'These offers are never done to the away fans at any ground as far as I'm aware. All Villa are trying to do is fill seats, big ground and a massive impact in the area from the recession so they have to come up with offers to entice the numbers down.'
It had been noted that if Blackpool had bought up an extra allocation then Villa wouldn't have been able to offer '4 for £40' to their fans.
