Campbell: Team Were In Tears

DJ Campbell has said that the Blackpool squad were in tears after hearing the news of Gary Parkinson's illness on Friday.

The coach, who has been at Bloomfield Road under three different managers now, had a stroke in the week and is currently battling for his life.

Campbell said the 2-0 win at Newcastle on Saturday had something to do with the fact the team wanted to do it for 'Parky'.

'Friday was tough. A lot of lads, especially the younger ones, were crying. The dressing room was very subdued before the game but we did our jobs as professionals and the older lads supported them but it wasn't easy for ourselves either,' the 1.2m signing said.

'I can't remember ever going into a game in circumstances like that, and that kind of pressure of someone we love being unwell. It is not a nice feeling.

'When you think about his family and his kids you just want to do well for them. Maybe that was a part of us doing well here.

'The T-shirt was a show of respect and love to someone who Blackpool loves and who loves Blackpool.'

We all send our best wishes to Gary's family and friends at this stressful time.
