'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ormerod Still Pinching Himself

'I said when I came back here that if I had half as good a time as I did last time, I'd be a happy man but I've had quadruple that.'

When Brett Ormerod re-signed for Blackpool in the winter of 2008, there was a mixed reaction.

Some were delighted to see one of Blackpool's modern day heroes back in tangerine, others were worried that it was a transfer fuelled by sentiment and that Brett was past his best following a spell at Preston.

However, the 33 year old was a revelation last season and was an integral part of the side that gained promotion to the Premier League.

Indeed, it was very fitting that it was Ormerod, after a great season (both personally and club wise), and after everything he's been through as a Seasider, who scored the goal to seal promotion to the Premier League.

However, even now he admits to having to pinch himself...

Speaking to the official website, Ormerod said:

'I'd be laughing if I ever said I'd imagined playing for Blackpool [in the Premier League]. I didn't expect anything like this.

'I just want to look forward at the monent and keep going. I'm really enjoying it.'

Shifting focus to next season, Ormerod admitted that mental strength and confidence have a big part to play:

'I think that mental strength comes into it a lot more in the Premier League because there are games where on the day you might get beat heavily away at someone, it just happens.

'If you're confident, it's 90% of your game. When you're playing with confidence you don't think about things as much.'

Can Brett defy the odds once again next season and keep the 'Pool in the Premier League?
