'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Forgotten Man

Last summer Billy Clarke was all set to sign for a League One, maybe even a League Two club, until he got a phonecall from Ian Holloway that changed his life.

Now just twelve months later, the twenty two year old is just a matter of weeks away from playing in the Premier League.

However, it's fair to say that the attacker has become somewhat of a forgotten man in recent weeks after injury and the form and results of his team mates kept him out of the side and on the bench during the final few games of the season.

Despite this, the youngster - whose style has been compared to Brett Ormerod's - cannot wait for next season to start:

'When you talk about coming up against defenders like John Terry or Rio Ferdinand … it is unbelievable to think about, mind-boggling really,' he said.

'I could never have imagined that for a second when I signed from Ipswich.

'But we just kept on going throughout the season and kept on getting better.

'The manager kept on believing in us and that made us believe in ourselves really, and I think that was probably the key.

'At the final whistle at Wembley there was no surprise among our lads that we had done it because we knew we were well capable of it, and we deserved it I think.'

Let's hope that we get to see more goals like Billy's one against Preston next season!

Linked in various quarters to a £300k switch to Watford by all accounts. Not seen or heard much of him BUT he was highly rated at Ipswich (until he got the shove obviously!)
