Blades Too Sharp For 'Pool

Is our playoff charge over? As much as it pains me to say it, after last night, I think so.

Sheffield United weren't brilliant, far from it in fact, but they went through us like a hot knife through butter.

It took them just 42 seconds to score their first. Woeful defending from a corner allowed Richard Cresswell to bundle home through a crowd of players.

After this setback the Seasiders actually enjoyed a fair amount of possession, but lacked any cutting edge up top. DJ Campbell couldn't get in the game whilst Charlie Adam was shocking. The Blades on the other hand caused us problems everytime they went forward.

The Seasiders were dealt a further blow just minutes before half time when Neal Eardley got injured stretching for the ball. Andy Butler replaced him, Alex Baptiste moving to right back.

And if that wasn't bad enough, there was still time before the break for the Blades to double their lead - Nick Montgomery firing past Matt Gilks from the edge of the area.

Ben Burgess replaced Keith Southern in the second half as we went to a 4-2-4, but it was to no avail.

Our best chance came from a Charlie Adam through ball that found Jason Euell, but Euell's lob was cleared off the line.

The Blades mdae it 3-0 when Cresswell tapped in from close range.

Barry Bannan then replaced Jason Euell and a few half chances for both sides followed but 3-0 is how it finished.
