Reserves Win 4-3
It's been a torrid time for the Seasiders' reserves of late with varying reasons, but particularly the weather, having prevented them from playing a game since November!
However, this afternoon they managed to get a game on and proceeded to beat Morecambe 4-3 at Bloomfield Road.
The 'Pool line up including several first team squad members either looking to stake their claim for a spot in the first XI or simply looking to get some match fitness under their belts after returning from injury: Neal Eardley, Joe Martin, Stephen Husband, Lewis Almond, Steve McPhee, Jason Euell, Ishmel and Danny Mitchley all being included.
The Seasiders opened the scoring when Danny Mitchley, back at Bloomfield Road after a trial period at Bury, cut in from the wing and smashed the ball home.
The visitors hit back from the spot though: Wayne Curtis converting after a foul by Joe Martin.
Ishmel put the Seasiders ahead again after linking up with Jason Euell, whilst Danny Mitchley added a third before the break. Mitchley and Eardley then missed chances to further extend 'Pool's lead before the half time interval.
After the break, Wayne Curtis got his second to make it 3-2 before Jason Euell added Blackpool's fourth.
Towards the end, Curtis completed his hat-trick but the Seasiders held on for the win.
Neal Eardley completed ninety minutes and looks likely to be in the squad for Saturday's trip to Barnsley, as does Stephen Husband who apparently greatly impressed in the middle of the park. Jason Euell can also be expected to be included in some capacity, whilst it will be interesting to see if Ishmel's brace sees him back in the match day squad.
Unless a mass injury crisis affects the Seasiders, the likes of Halstead, Almond and Mitchley will have to be patient and wait for their opportunity whilst continuing to impress for the reserves, whilst Joe Martin and Steve McPhee look like they will have to gain more match fitness before being considered for a return to first team action, having only lasted for an hour this afternoon.
Hoewver, with such players returning to action (it was also revealed today that Billy Clarke has stepped up his recovery from injury, leaving Danny Nardiello and Danny Coid as our only real absentees), Ian Holloway might well find himself with some different team selections to make between now and the end of the season.
