Ground Guide: Deepdale

Deepdung - PKE

Is there ever a good time to have a bad run? Saturdays visit to the Knobbers perhaps couldn't have come at a worse time, 3 defeats on the bounce who would have thought that if we lose again on Saturday then those from the wrong end of the M55 would be above us. But this is a ground that has seen us win on our last 2 visits there, and with a full house sell out from the travelling hordes (and they have the nerve to call us for our crowds) here's hoping that good things really do come in threes.

How to get there
17 miles yet they couldn't sell all their tickets. M55 leaving at J1 joining the A6.
Make sure you have the central locking switched on then follow the tangerine brick road.

Sat Navvers - PR1 6RU

For the Virgin Lovers amongst us - when you get to Knobbersville the boys in blue will be waiting to herd you like cattle onto either: a) free transport via buses with great air conditioning ;-) or b) walk you in a line to the ground.

The Ground
Deepdung - the home of the invisibles. You'll never visit a ground where the home fans are so quiet. They have named their stands after the legends who have played there over the years. So we'll be sat behind a goal fully occupying the Pickering Kop. There is of course the Hoolahan Stand to our left and the Adam Stand to our right. Opposite is the famous Town End. So called because although they stole a cathedral to enable them to have City 'status' to rename it the City End would be stretching it a little too far, even for them.

The ground has players faces on the seats, you'll be able to make a couple of them out from about 5 minutes from the end when the annual exodus happens because they can't bear to face the final whistle and the vision of the celebrating tangerines.
Yes they have a finished stadium, but at what price? Room for 23408 you have to walk 50 yards to get a light on a normal match day. Losing money, the ground's only ever full when the big clubs come a visiting and their main attraction being the Football League Museum is also soon to leave, although the plumber has demanded they leave behind his solitary medal when they do.

On the plus side the vacant space left behind could easily be converted into a busy women's refuge.

Where to drink
Stick to drinking in town before setting off on the short journey. Last year we took over a designated pub, I think they'll have learned from their mistakes this time around. The nearest pub is the Sumners (I've never managed to get past the door) and ale should be on sale inside the ground. Otherwise I'd suggest pubs on the outskirts before plod round you up. The Black Bull or even the Flying Plumber at the end of the 55.

Plod & Stewards
There'll be a large plod presence, undercover recon has already taken place at recent away games (Morning PC Berry) and with the Forest banning orders almost up no doubt the OB will be looking for any excuses to add to those numbers.

Fear Factor Rating - 1. No need to panic it's only Preston.

Earlier this season, in front of a watching nation, we played a fantastic attacking game but ended up only taking 1 point off the scum. Perhaps now is the time to shut up shop and take one of a handful of chances and take the annual 3 points back up the 55 with us. Pickering, Ormerod89, Hoolahan and Adam I'm not bothered who scores the winner on Saturday as long as he's in tangerine. The time is right to kick our season back on track on keep the Knobbers down where they belong - below us.
