Baptiste Signs New Deal

In news that will come as a massive boost following strong rumours linking the player with a move to Middlesbrough, 'Pool defender Alex Baptiste has signed a new contract that could see him stay at the club until June 2013 (his previous deal expired this summer, but did have a one year option).

Speaking to the official website upon signing the deal, Baptiste said:

'I am very pleased, I had a good chat with the gaffer and Thommo and the direction of the club is upwards and I want to be part of it.

'There are some quality players in the squad and I'm delighted at the way things have gone.'

Manager Ian Holloway is also delighted that Baps has put pen to paper:

'Everyone has been talking about Charlie's form but Baps has played at left back, right back and centre back and he has been different class.

'I believe he can play in the Premiership and I have told him that. I don't think I have had a better one (a defender) and I am delighted he has signed.'
