Seasiders Have Law Bid Rejected

BBC Radio Sheffield are this evening reporting that Rotherham United have rejected a £150,000 offer for versatile midfielder Nicky Law.

Rotherham, chasing promotion from League Two, signed Law in the summer following a loan spell at Bradford.

However, the deal that saw him join from Sheffield United included a 50% sell on clause, meaning that £75,000 of the offered fee from Ian Holloway's men would have gone straight to the Blades.

It is believed that this is the principle reason for the Millers rejecting the bid, and it will be interesting to see if the Seasiders go back with an improved bid.

The player certainly falls into Ian Holloway's targeted age bracket for signings, aged just twenty one.

His dad, also named Nicky Law, used to play for the Seasiders, but his son began his career at Sheffield United, initially as a defender before making the move into midfield.

He made four Premier League appearances for the Blades in 2006-7, but did not appear for them again.

Loan spells at Yeovil and Bradford followed, before Law joined Rotherham on a permanent transfer this summer, signing a two year deal. He had been transfer listed by Blades manager Kevin Blackwell after they had failed to regain Premier League status and thus had to trim their squad.

Although there was no fee involved, the deal did include the aforementioned 50% resale clause.

After an impressive pre-season, Law broke into the Millers starting XI immediately and impressed pundits and managers in the early weeks of the season with some cracking displays. Indeed, it is reported that Middlesbrough had a transfer deadline day bid for him rebuffed.

The hype around him has quietened in recent times, but Law has continued to impress for the Millers, scoring twice this season and recording five assists.

Law can play in either central midfield or on the right, and is known for his quality of delivery at dead ball situations.

As always, we will bring you any further news on this development as soon as we have it.

I think you are going to have to offer at least double that amount. He's one of our best players and whatever we get for him we have to give 50% to Sheff U as part of his contract
