Ex Captain Michael Jackson Forced To Retire

Former Blackpool captain Michael Jackson has been forced to retire from professional football after failing to recover from a knee injury suffered last season whilst playing for Shrewsbury.

The thirty six year old had recently returned to training following the advice of his specialist, but unfortunately his knee troubles have proved persistent and he has now decided to retire.

Jackson was of course captain during our 2006/7 promotion season and our first season in the Championship in 2007/8, and despite being ex-Preston, is remembered fondly at Bloomfield Road.

Speaking to the Blackpool Gazette, Jackson said:

'I'm gutted. I've tried everything but it's got worse and playing again could have meant a complete knee cap replacement.

'I've got two young children and I've not been able to play with them and go out with them like a normal person would do because I've spent so long on crutches. The decision was inevitable, but also a hard one.'

Jacko will remain at Shrewsbury as a coach until the end of the season when he will assess his options, and everyone here at Vital Blackpool wishes him the very best for the future.
